Padel Courts require specific Lighting to ensure players can see the ball clearly, especially during evening or indoor play. The goal is to create even, High-quality Lighting that reduces shadows and glare while ensuring safety and proper visibility. Here are the key considerations for Lighting Padel Courts:

1. Brightness and Lux Levels

  • The International Padel Federation (FIP) recommends an average illumination of around 500 lux for recreational or club-level courts.
  • For professional or competition-level play, the recommended lux level increases to 700-1000 lux to ensure top visibility and consistency.
  • The lighting should be uniform across the entire court to avoid areas of excessive brightness or shadow.

2. Light Distribution

  • The lighting system should be designed to provide uniform distribution of light across the entire court, from the playing surface to the walls and net.
  • You can achieve this by using high-quality LED fixtures that reduce the possibility of shadows and hotspots.

3. Type of Fixtures

  • LED Floodlights are the most commonly used for padel courts. They are energy-efficient, long-lasting, and provide a bright, even light.
  • For outdoor courts, you might consider IP-rated fixtures (typically IP65 or higher) to ensure they are weatherproof and resistant to rain, dust, and moisture.
  • Mounting height is typically around 8 to 10 meters above the court surface, depending on the type of lighting and the desired coverage.

4. Color Temperature

  • For padel courts, the recommended color temperature is between 4000K and 5000K (neutral white to cool white), as this range provides clear visibility and contrasts well against the court markings and ball.

5. Glare Reduction

  • To reduce glare and enhance player visibility, the light fixtures should be positioned at the appropriate angle, typically overhead and slightly tilted. Anti-glare shields or diffusers are often used in the design to reduce direct glare.

6. Energy Efficiency

  • LED lights are favored not only for their brightness but also for their energy efficiency. Many modern padel courts use smart lighting systems that allow automatic adjustment of light intensity depending on the time of day, weather, or player needs.

7. Lighting Control

  • Some courts may benefit from motion sensors or automated systems that control the lights. This allows for dimming or turning off lights in areas of the court that are not in use.

8. Additional Considerations for Indoor Courts

  • For indoor padel courts, the ceiling height plays a significant role in how the light is distributed. The lighting fixtures might need to be adjusted to avoid reflections off walls or ceilings that could distract players.

Using high-quality, properly installed Lighting ensures a better playing experience and reduces eye strain, making the game more enjoyable for both amateurs and professionals.
